How to report on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal

A plain-language guide to filing a complaint on cybercrime.gov.in and following it up.

1 min read

The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in) is run by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It routes complaints to the police of the relevant state and connects financial fraud reports to banks.

Before you start

  • Your mobile number, for the OTP login
  • Bank name, account or card involved, and transaction IDs or UTR numbers
  • Date, time and amount of each transaction
  • The fraudster’s phone numbers, UPI IDs, websites or app names
  • Screenshots to upload

Filing the complaint

  1. Choose “Report Cyber Crime” and then the financial fraud category for money lost.
  2. Fill in the incident details and every transaction separately.
  3. Upload evidence and submit.
  4. Save the acknowledgement number and the complaint PDF.

After filing

Use the acknowledgement number to track the status and to follow up at the cyber police station. Keep a copy for your bank and for any later application to the court for release of held funds.
